All of Batten McLamb Smith’s attorneys have experience in defending hospitals and physicians. Our team includes two OB-GYNs and an anesthesiologist. We have handled cases from the mountains to coast of North Carolina, and have assisted local counsel in major cases in Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, New Hampshire, South Carolina and West Virginia. In addition to defending doctors and hospitals for several of the leading defense health care carriers in North Carolina, we are national counsel for two of the nations’ largest hospital systems.
We have been asked to either lead or be coordinating counsel for multi-plaintiff cases. We have a particular expertise in birth injury cases and we successfully tried cases with life care plans ranging to $49 million. We also are assisting with the defense of adult stroke cases in several states. As medical boards have become more aggressive, we often are asked to represent physicians, nurses, and dentists in medical board proceedings to preserve their license.
