Erin Epley Attorney

Erin focuses her practice on health care, business and catastrophic tort litigation.  She represents clients in complex cases in both state and federal court.  Erin has experience drafting and arguing motions, writing appellate and amicus briefs, preparing fact and expert witnesses for trial and taking and defending depositions.

Prior to joining Batten McLamb Smith, Erin worked at the largest civil defense firm in North Carolina.  During this part of her career, Erin served on more than 17 trial teams and focused her practice on defending tobacco industry clients in smoking and health litigation.  Additionally, Erin defended local law enforcement entities and officers in tort litigation, including cases involving claims of excessive force, wrongful death, discrimination, violations of the First and Fourteenth Amendment, and enforcement of the North Carolina sweepstakes law.  Erin also has defended some of the largest insurance companies against claims involving breach of contract and bad faith. 

 For her undergraduate studies, Erin attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She received her B.A. in Journalism in 2012.  Erin later graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2016.  At Wake Forest, Erin received the CALI Award for Excellence in Taxation: Federal Income.
